In June 2023, Instagram company head, Adam Mosseri, announced that the feature would be available for users in the United States. However, he noted that it was only available for videos in public places. Again, for the download option to work, the video's owner must allow it to be downloaded. 

To download videos, users need to tap on the share icon of the video before selecting the download option. If you are in a country where the service is unavailable, consider other ways to download the videos. Your method will depend on whether you download on a desktop, Android, or IOS device. 

Downloading Instagram Reels Through Screen Recordings

No matter the type of video you want to download, this method will work as long as it's on your screen. The good thing about this method is that it will capture the reel with its sound. Here are the steps to follow when recording a reel to download it:

  1. Go to the reel on Instagram and download it.
  2. Tap on the screen recording to begin recording. Ensure that you also tap on the voice recording.
  3. Once the reel comes to an end, tap on Stop Recording.
