IG is ready to allow users download REELS

Adam Mosseri, the chief of Instagram, announced on Wednesday that the platform is expanding its features globally, enabling all users to download public reels directly to their devices. This new capability marks a shift from the previous limitation where users could only save Reels within the Instagram app for later viewing.

During a broadcast on his Instagram channel, Mosseri highlighted that these downloaded Reels will feature an Instagram watermark, including the user's account name, similar to the watermarks seen on TikTok videos. To download a Reel, users simply need to click the share button and choose the download option. Additionally, Instagram has provided the option for users to disable the downloading of their Reels. This can be managed in the app's settings under Privacy > Reels and Remix by toggling the “Allow people to download your Reels” option.

Only licensed audio tracks are allowed

It's important to note that if a Reel incorporates a licensed audio track, the downloaded version will be silent. Only Reels with original audio will retain their sound in the downloaded file. The feature was initially introduced to users in the United States in June and has now been extended globally.

In 2021, Instagram began to discourage the sharing of clips with TikTok watermarks or watermarks from other platforms. Similarly, in August 2022, YouTube started adding a distinctive watermark to downloaded videos from its Shorts feature, aiming to reduce the sharing of these videos across different platforms.
