Adding an admin to a Facebook group helps maintain activity, manage membership, and keep the community safe. This role gives trusted members access to key tools such as approving posts, managing rules, and changing group settings.​

 

What an Admin Can Do

Admins have the highest level of control in a group. They can edit group settings, approve or decline membership requests, manage posts and comments, and assign or remove other admins and moderators. Because of this responsibility, Facebook recommends choosing people who are active, respectful, and aligned with the group’s purpose.​

Basic Requirements Before Adding an Admin

The person who will be made admin must already be a member of the group. The existing admin must also be active and signed in to the account that currently manages the group. In many cases, the new admin receives an invitation and must accept it before the role becomes active.​

Steps to Add an Admin on Desktop

  1. Open Facebook and go to the desired group from the left sidebar or the Groups section.​
  2. In the group, select the Manage or Manage group option from the menu.​
  3. Open the People or Members section to see the list of group members.​
  4. Find the member who should become admin and click the three dot icon next to their name.​
  5. Choose Invite as admin or Make [name] an admin, then confirm the action.​
  6. Once the person accepts the invitation, their role changes to admin in the members list.​

Steps to Add an Admin on Mobile App

  1. Open the Facebook app and tap the menu icon, then select Groups and choose the relevant group.​
  2. Tap Manage to access group tools, then open People or Members.​
  3. Locate the member, tap the three dot icon next to their name, and select Invite as admin or Make admin.​
  4. Confirm the choice and wait for the member to accept the new role.​

Using Community Roles

Some groups display a Community Roles section under the Manage menu. In this area, existing admins can search for specific members and assign them as admins or moderators from a central list. This method can be useful in large communities where there are many active members to manage.
